An incredibly unique car that is race ready and has podium pedigree, this 1966 Brabham BT15 Formula B racecar could be yours today.
One of Ron Tauranac’s race winning designs, it was built at the Factory of Motor Racing Developments (MRD) in the greater London area. This 1966 BT 15 F3-33-66 has a well-documented history, and it was first driven as a 1965 BT15 car by Peter Gethin, who would go on to win the 1971 Italian Grand Prix in Formula One. At the time, he was driving in British F3 for Charles Lucas Engineering Team.
In 1966, the car was given a new chassis and rebuilt into the F3-33-66 with a new B15 chassis. The car continued racing in F3, before later moving to F4 and Monoposto F3. The car’s suspension geometry was later upgraded to BT 21 spec for the 1978 F4 season. In 1989, this car won the Monoposto F3 championship. In 1992, the car was purchased to race in Monoposto events in the USA, and it was converted to Formula B specs for Formula B events in America, including the fitting of a 1600 cc Lotus twin cam engine.
The present owner purchased the car in 2022, and fully race prepared and maintained the car with the help of VRM’s race shop in Seattle. Since then, many new upgrades and parts have been added and maintained to keep the car competitive and race ready. Notable additions include:
All new coolant and hydraulic lines
Replaced brakes
Rebuilt calipers
Rebuilt Ivey race engine
New Spax shock absorbers
Spare set of mag wheels with new Avon race tires
New alloy radiator
New drive shafts and bearings
New harnesses
Notable race results in 2023 since these changes include a third-place finish at Sonoma Raceway, as well as second and third place finishes at Laguna Seca in the Formula B Continental Championships.
The vehicle is currently located in Seattle, Washington.
