In our opinion, a seasoned GM block that we have gone over with our CNCs is a better foundation than a new GM block. It certainly offers more value. We push these seasoned 6.0L blocks over 1,000 hp with no problem. The stock GM cranks are cast not forged, so they need to upgraded way before hitting 1,000 hp. We switch to aftermarket forged cranks at 700 hp for our own engine builds.
If you are looking for a replacement short block for an engine with only a cam and top-end mods, this could be a great choice for you. The seasoned block and crank are given the love they deserve on our CNCs allowing them to hit higher levels of performance than new because they now have essentially perfect dimensions, balance and surface finish. We use either Manley Extreme Duty Platinum Series LS Pistons or Diamond Race Series pistons together with either Callies or Manley rods to complete the rotating assembly. The forged H-beam rods are made with 4340 alloy. The pistons are made from 2168 alloy with wrist pins of 9310 alloy.
